Discover Diathermy - Skin Lesion Removal

DIATHERMY

What is Diathermy

Diathermy skin lesion removal is a minimally invasive procedure that uses high-frequency electrical currents to remove unwanted skin lesions by heating and destroying targeted tissue. It is commonly used for:

What Can Diathermy remove

  • Skin tags
  • Warts (common & plantar)
  • Milia (tiny white cysts)
  • Seborrheic keratosis (benign skin growths)
  • Cherry angiomas (red spots caused by blood vessel overgrowth)
  • Spider veins (small broken capillaries)
  • Xanthelasma (cholesterol deposits around the eyes)

 How Does It Work?

  1. The area is cleaned, and a local anesthetic may be applied.
  2. A fine probe delivers a high-frequency electrical current to the lesion.
  3. The heat coagulates (burns) or vaporizes the unwanted tissue.
  4. The treated lesion dries up and falls off naturally over the next few days to weeks.

Pre-Care: Preparing for Your Diathermy Treatment

1. Keep Your Skin Clean & Dry

  • Wash the treatment area with mild soap and water before your appointment.
  • Avoid using lotions, creams, or makeup on the area.

2. Avoid Sun Exposure & Tanning

  • Stay out of direct sunlight for at least 48 hours before treatment.

3. Stay Hydrated

  • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin and tissues hydrated.

4. Avoid Blood-Thinning Medications

  • If possible, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, or anticoagulants 24 hours before treatment (unless prescribed).
  • This helps reduce bruising and bleeding.

5. Shave Hair (If Needed)

  • If treating a hairy area, shave the area 24 hours before (but avoid waxing or plucking).

6. Do NOT Use Harsh Skincare Products

  • Avoid exfoliants, retinol, AHAs, or chemical peels 3-5 days before treatment to prevent irritation.

7. Inform Your Provider About Medical Conditions

  • Let them know if you have a pacemaker, metal implants, diabetes, or skin conditions that may affect the treatment.

Post-Care: What to Do After Diathermy

Pre-Care: Preparing for Your Diathermy Treatment

Pre-Care: Preparing for Your Diathermy Treatment

1. Apply a Cold Compress (If Needed)

  • Mild redness and swelling are normal—use an ice pack (wrapped in a cloth) to soothe the area.

2. Keep the Area Clean & Moisturized

  • Wash gently with lukewarm water and mild soap.
  • Use fragrance-free moisturizer or aloe vera to prevent dryness.

3. Let Scabs Heal Naturally (For Skin Lesion Removal)

  • Some treated areas may form tiny scabs—do not pick or scratch them.
  • Scabs will fall off naturally within 7–14 days.

4. Avoid Sun Exposure & Use Sunscreen

  • Keep the area out of direct sun for at least a week.
  • Use SPF 30+ to prevent hyperpigmentation.

5. Avoid Hot Showers, Saunas & Sweating

  • No hot showers, saunas, or intense workouts for 24–48 hours to prevent irritation.

6. Do NOT Use Harsh Skincare Products for 3-5 Days

  • Avoid exfoliants, retinol, glycolic acid, or harsh toners.

7. No Makeup on Treated Areas for 24–48 Hours
