IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair reduction is a popular method of long-term hair removal that uses broad-spectrum light to target and weaken hair follicles. Unlike laser hair removal, which uses a single wavelength of light, IPL emits multiple wavelengths, making it effective for larger areas of the body.
How It Works:
Benefits:
IPL hair reduction treatment targets unwanted hair growth over the course of treatments. It uses non-invasive broad-spectrum light to treat unwanted hair on the face and body. The melanin (pigment) in the hair absorbs the light, converting it into heat. This heat damages the hair follicle, slowing down or preventing future hair growth. Using intense pulse light technology we aim to cause targeted destruction of hair follicles without causing thermal damage to the surrounding tissue.
CONSIDERATIONS:
Fitzpatrick skin type 6 (darker skin type), Grey, white, blonde or strawberry blonde hair, very fine hair, regardless of colour. Clients who are contraindicated to treatment, are not ideal for IPL hair reduction
Test Patch is required 24-48 hours prior to treatment.
Sunscreen with SPF30+ daily. It is extremely important that you avoid sun exposure for 4 weeks prior to your IPL skin correction appointment.
Sun exposure in the area treated, this will increase the risk of having adverse reactions, which include; persistent redness, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation or swelling in the treatment area.
8 Weeks - Avoid waxing, plucking, threading, depilatory creams or undertake electrolysis treatment.
4 Weeks - Avoid fake tans (spray or creams) including tanning beds/booths. The area must be covered and protected from the sun for a safe and effective treatment. Avoid Filler injections in the treatment area.
2 Weeks - Must be prepped on clinical skin care for a minimum of 2 to 4 weeks. Home care must include Vitamin A and Vitamin C for a minimum of 2 to 4 weeks.
Avoid anti-wrinkle injectables & prescription strength exfoliant creams.
1 Week - Avoid Benzyl Peroxide on the treated area, If prone to cold sores, speak to your pharmacist about anti-
viral medication.
3 days before - Avoid cosmeceutical Vitamin A, AHA's & BHA's and Vitamin C applications.
1 day pre treatment - Please shave the treatment area thoroughly.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair reduction is a non-invasive treatment that uses broad-spectrum light to target and weaken hair follicles, leading to reduced hair growth over time.
IPL significantly reduces hair growth, but it is not considered permanent. Maintenance sessions may be required to keep hair from growing back.
IPL works best on lighter skin tones with dark hair because the light is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair. It is less effective on very light, gray, red, or white hair due to the lack of melanin.
Most patients describe the sensation as a mild snapping or rubber band-like feeling. Some discomfort is normal, but it is generally well-tolerated. Some areas, like the bikini line, may be more sensitive.
You may start noticing reduced hair growth after 3-4 sessions, with full results typically visible after 6-12 sessions. Hair will grow back finer and lighter over time.
IPL can be risky for darker skin tones as the light may be absorbed by the skin rather than the hair, leading to burns or pigmentation issues. Some advanced IPL devices have skin tone sensors to adjust settings safely.
It is not recommended to use IPL during pregnancy, as there is limited research on its effects during this time.
