Discover Electrolysis - Permanent Hair Removal

ELECTROLYSIS

What is Electrolysis

Electrolysis hair removal is a method of permanently removing unwanted hair by using an electric current to destroy hair follicles. A tiny probe is inserted into the hair follicle, and an electrical current is applied, which damages the follicle and prevents future hair growth.

There are three main types of electrolysis:

  1. Galvanic – Uses a chemical reaction to destroy the follicle.
  2. Thermolysis – Uses heat to damage the follicle.
  3. Blend Method – Combines both galvanic and thermolysis for more effective results.

Electrolysis is the only TGA-approved method for permanent hair removal and works on all hair colors and skin types, unlike laser hair removal, which is less effective on light-colored hair. However, multiple sessions are needed because hair grows in cycles, and only actively growing hairs can be treated at a time.

Benefits of Electrolysis Hair Removal:

Permanent Hair Removal

  • Electrolysis is the only TGA-approved method for permanent hair removal. Unlike laser hair removal, which reduces hair growth, electrolysis completely destroys the follicle, preventing regrowth.

Works on All Hair Colors & Skin Types

  • Unlike laser hair removal, which is less effective on blonde, gray, red, or white hair, electrolysis works on all hair colors and skin tones.

Safe for All Body Areas

  • Can be used on the face, eyebrows, underarms, legs, bikini area, and even sensitive areas like the upper lip and nipples without risk of pigmentation changes.

No Risk of Hyperpigmentation or Burns

  • Laser hair removal can cause burns or hyperpigmentation, especially on darker skin tones. Electrolysis doesn’t pose this risk.

No Need for Maintenance Treatments

  • Once you complete the required sessions, no touch-ups are needed—unlike laser hair removal or waxing, which require regular maintenance.

Suitable for All Hair Growth Stages

  • Electrolysis can target hairs in any growth phase, while laser hair removal is only effective on actively growing hairs.

No Long-Term Side Effects

  • While temporary redness and swelling can occur, there are no long-term risks like scarring or skin discoloration when performed correctly.

who can benefit from electrolysis

Electrolysis is a great option for anyone looking for a permanent solution to unwanted hair. It is especially beneficial for:

People with Any Hair Color or Skin Tone

  • Unlike laser hair removal, which struggles with blonde, gray, white, and red hairs, electrolysis works on all hair types and colors.
  • It’s also safe for all skin tones, including darker skin, which may be at risk for pigmentation issues with lasers.

Individuals with Hormonal Hair Growth (PCOS, Hirsutism, etc.)

  • People with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), hirsutism, or other hormonal imbalances often experience excess hair growth, especially on the face, chest, or abdomen.
  • Electrolysis permanently removes these hairs and prevents regrowth.

Those Looking for a Permanent Solution

  • If you're tired of shaving, waxing, plucking, or threading, electrolysis offers a one-time investment for lifelong results.

People with Sensitive Skin or Prone to Ingrown Hairs

  • Unlike waxing or shaving, which can cause irritation, razor burns, and ingrown hairs, electrolysis destroys the follicle, preventing ingrown hairs altogether.

Individuals Seeking Eyebrow Shaping or Facial Hair Removal

  • Electrolysis is precise enough for delicate areas like the eyebrows, upper lip, and chin—ideal for those who want a clean, permanent shape.

Transgender & Non-Binary Individuals Undergoing Hair Removal

  • Electrolysis is commonly used for gender-affirming hair removal, including facial hair removal and pre-surgical hair removal for procedures like vaginoplasty.

Pre Care - To ensure the best results and minimize discomfort, follow these pre-treatment tips:

Keep Your Skin Hydrated

  • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your session.
  • Moisturize regularly, but avoid heavy lotions on the day of treatment.

Avoid Caffeine & Stimulants

  • Caffeine, alcohol, and other stimulants can make you more sensitive to pain. Try to avoid them at least 24 hours before your appointment.

Let Your Hair Grow (Don’t Wax or Pluck!)

  • You can shave or trim before electrolysis, but do NOT wax, tweeze, or use depilatory creams for at least 1-2 weeks before treatment.
  • Electrolysis targets the hair follicle, so it needs to be present in the skin for effective treatment.

 Gently Exfoliate

  • Light exfoliation a day before your session can help remove dead skin cells, allowing the probe to enter the follicle more easily.
  • Avoid harsh scrubs or chemical peels right before treatment.

Avoid Sun Exposure & Tanning

  • Sunburned or tanned skin is more sensitive and prone to irritation. Avoid excessive sun exposure for at least a week before treatment.

Take a Pain Reliever (If Needed)

  • If you're sensitive to pain, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever (like ibuprofen or acetaminophen) about 30-60 minutes before your session.
  • Some people also apply numbing cream (like lidocaine) before treatment.

Arrive with Clean Skin

  • On the day of your appointment, wash the area with gentle soap and avoid makeup, lotions, or oils on the treatment area.

After electrolysis, your skin may be slightly red, swollen, or sensitive. Follow these aftercare tips to promote healing and prevent irritation:

Soothe the Skin

  • Apply a cold compress or ice pack wrapped in a cloth to reduce swelling.
  • Use aloe vera gel or witch hazel to calm the skin.

Keep the Area Clean & Moisturized

  • Wash the treated area with mild soap and lukewarm water—avoid scrubbing.
  • Apply a fragrance-free moisturizer to prevent dryness.

Avoid Touching or Picking at the Skin

  • It’s normal to have tiny scabs; do NOT pick at them—they will heal naturally.
  • Avoid rubbing or scratching to prevent irritation and scarring.

Skip Makeup & Harsh Skincare for

24-48 Hours

  • Avoid makeup, toners, exfoliants, retinol, or alcohol-based products for at least 1-2 days.
